Here are some places that will love up all the stuff you’re done with.

Freecycle
(freecycle.org)

The Freecycle Network™ is a grassroots, nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. Membership is free. To sign up, go to freecycle.org.

When you want to find a new home for something — whether it’s a chair, a fax machine, piano, or an old door — you simply send an e-mail offering it to members of the local Freecycle group.

The main rule: Everything posted must be free, legal, and appropriate for all ages.

Electronics

There’s a whole lot of places where you can “responsibly dispose” of your ancient (you know, anything over two years old) electronic stuff.  Here are a few ideas.  The net is full of others.

  • All Green Waste Management
    (allgreenwm.com)
  • Best Buy
    (bestbuy.com)

Check out their website.  They have a Best Buy green program.  They’ll take just about everything electronic and turn it into something else.

  • Computer Recycling

    6449 San Fernando Rd, Glendale
    (818) 243-6967

Used books

There are many places that will accept used books in good condition.

  • Friends of the Beverly Hills Public Library
    444 Rexford Drive, BH, 90210
    310.288.2286
    friendsofbhpl.org
  • Santa Monica Public Library
    601 Santa Monica., SM, 90401
    310.458.8600
    smpl.org

Bring books to customer service desk on first floor. They do not give a receipt for the books. No magazines.

Check with other libraries in your area. Some take used books, some do not.
